Art and Design at Newfield

At Newfield Primary we strive to deliver an ambitious, thorough and enjoyable Art and Design curriculum that prepares pupils for the world and develops them into creative individuals who are able to express themselves. In order to deliver a high-quality Art and Design curriculum, we have adopted Kapow Primary’s art scheme.

Through Kapow Primary’s Art and Design scheme of work, we aim to inspire pupils and develop their confidence to experiment and invent their own works of art. Our Art and Design curriculum is well sequenced and progressive and is designed to give pupils every opportunity to develop their ability, nurture their talent and interests, express their ideas and thoughts about the world, as well as learning about art and artists across the cultures through history.

Our Art and Design curriculum supports pupils to meet the National Curriculum end of key stage attainment targets and fully covers the National Society for Education in Art and Design’s progression competencies.

At Newfield Primary School we know that, within the context of SEND, personalisation of the curriculum is key so that each individual’s priorities can be considered in order to prepare them adequately for adulthood with the best possible quality of life. Our ambitious curriculum can be successfully adapted to meet the needs of pupils with SEND, developing their knowledge, skills and abilities to apply what they know with increasing fluency and independence. We believe that it is vital that our pupils are equipped with the tools needed to become independent, inquisitive learners in all subjects and that pupils with SEND achieve the very best outcome and reach their full potential.
